Patient Learns Skills, Feels Empowered with Patient Navigators at Familias
Here is what she had to say:
“I am from Oaxaca, Mexico. I have breast cancer. I never expected this to happen to me. You can see other people dealing with the disease, but I never expected this to happen to me. With the help that I received from Familias en Acción, I have been able to get through my treatment.
Familias helped me to not be depressed and helped me deal with the medical bills. Familias is a blessing. One of the barriers that I had was the language. There was confusion with the interpreters and not knowing what was going on.
The human connection that Familias offers makes me feel great. I have learned to always ask questions. I learned new things and how to better manage my condition.
I think there are a lot of people who would benefit from the services and might not know about the agency. I would tell other people to be positive and thank god. Faith is very helpful since it has helped me a lot and without faith it would have been more difficult.”
We thank Josefina for sharing her story with us!
