Dawn Richardson

OHSU-PSU School of Public Health

Dawn Richardson is an assistant professor in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. She is a social epidemiologist whose research examines the role of structural racism in creating adverse geographies of opportunity and driving health inequities via chronic stress. Her work is influenced by community-based participatory research principles, and she engages with communities to advance health equity through upstream interventions and policy change efforts. Her current research focuses on maternal health and includes a project examining the role of documentation status on immigrant women’s health, an evaluation of paid family leave policies on family health, and the impact of racism and discrimination on Latino/x/e chronic stress.

Joey Salloum
Board Treasurer
Sr. Business Operations Manager at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Joey Salloum brings an astute Operational and Financial lens to Familias en Acción. With a background in accounting and financial analysis, and years of experience in various operational roles, Joey focuses on strategizing and finding efficiencies to support growing organizations. Most recently, Joey implemented a State-wide training program for care providers across Oregon, emphasizing the importance of accessibility, equity, and inclusion in the delivery of the training. His goal in working with Familias is to help scale its operational and financial growth, in hopes to provide more resources and support to the affected Latino/e/x comunidad. In addition, he is an advocate for expanded STI/HIV education and testing for the community. Originally from the Detroit and Chicago areas, Joey has been in Portland for the past 6 years and is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He is looking forward to being a new member of the Familias Board!

Maria Maldonado

Providence Health & Services – Director, Strategic Portfolio Management

Maria Maldonado has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University. She works at Providence Health and Services for the Oregon region as the Director of Strategic Portfolio Management. Over the past 20 years, she has worked in high technology manufacturing and healthcare industries where her jobs have included Engineering and Operations Management, among others. Most recently, her work is focused on managing the implementations of strategic initiatives for Providence in the Oregon region. Her proudest moments are seeing her 2 little boys embrace their Hispanic heritage.

Eva Galvez, MD
Board Member
Family Medicine Physician – Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center

Dr. Eva Galvez is a board certified family physician at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and her undergraduate degree at Oregon State University.  She is a native Oregonian and the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and seasonal farm workers. She brings a deep understanding of the health disparities impacting the Latino/x/e communities and is dedicated to raising awareness on these issues. She has been featured in the NY Times, NPR’s Morning Edition, and PBS NewsHour. She was named as the 2020 Alumni Fellow for the College of Science at Oregon State University for her leadership during the time of COVID-19. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children, and her identical twin sister. 

Martin Taylor

Martin Taylor is the President of Taylor Insights. Taylor Insight services include strategic consulting and executive coaching. Most recently, Martin served as the Interim Executive Director of Project Access Now, and Chief Executive Officer for the Oregon Nurses Association (2017-2019).

Catherine Potter
Board Member
Senior Program Manager for Community and Social Health at Kaiser Permanente Northwest

Catherine develops and manages regional and local strategies, programs and interventions to address the social determinants of health and health equity in NW communities. Catherine manages grants and partnerships on behalf of Kaiser Permanente with local community-based organizations including safety net clinics, social service providers and other local organizations that serve low-income communities. Catherine works on issues related to access to care, mental health & wellness, oral health, school-based health care, housing and nutrition, and community health workers. Before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2012, Catherine spent 16 years developing and managing Community Health Worker programs in Oregon, primarily in the Latino immigrant community.  Catherine holds a master’s degree in medical anthropology, is bilingual (Spanish/English) and is a trained medical interpreter. She is passionate about health equity, eliminating health disparities and bringing a social justice perspective to her work in health care.

Rev. Mark Knutson

Rev. W. J. Mark Knutson has been Pastor of Augustana Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon since December 1995. Pastor Mark is a tremendous community leader, who has supported Familias en Acción since its beginning days. He has been on the Board of the NW Health Foundation and many other organizations, and helps to connect Familias with the community.
