CHW Workforce Program

The CHW Workforce Program aims to strengthen the Latiné Community Health Worker (CHW) workforce by providing training, certification support, continuing education, career support, and technical assistance. The program works to remove barriers to certification and advocates for policies that support the CHW workforce.
Program Offerings
90-hour CHW Training, Securing State Certification, Renewal Support
Familias offers a culturally specific 90-hour Community Health Worker Training & Certification Program, as well as ongoing support for CHWs. Training is offered in-person and only available in Spanish. During this training participants will be receiving the CHW foundational curriculum, required Oral health hours, and HIPAA training. See our class calendar for upcoming training cohorts.
Continuing Education Opportunities
The workforce development team provides information about upcoming training and workshops which may offer continuing education units (CEUs) or certification upon completion, including other training programs that Familias offers. The trainings will range from asynchronous online events to in-person events located around Oregon. The information was gathered into one place for CHWs and other professionals needing CEUs.
Career Coaching & Job Placement Support
We partner with Centro Cultural's Centro de Prosperidad Program to present their 101 Career Mapping Workshop at graduation day of each cohort.
Our team also identifies job openings for Traditional Health Workers around Oregon. These can be found in the same Google Spreadsheet as our CEU offerings - there is a tab where job openings are listed.

The CHW Workforce (WD) program, particularly through our Foundational CHW training, plays a crucial role in fostering both personal and professional growth within the Latiné community. By offering training in Spanish, providing a culturally sensitive environment, and popular education teaching methods, it equips participants with a deeper understanding of health equity and encourages / supports them to advocate for their communities.
The program directly responds to the community's desire for greater employment opportunities in healthcare, providing essential resources that enable participants to serve as advocates within and beyond the healthcare system. Our CHW training reduces the language barriers to becoming a Community Health Worker (CHW) by offering Spanish-language training and assistance with the Oregon Health Authority THW application process, which is currently available only in English.
Additionally, the program encourages participants to use their voice and power to make an impact, while also opening pathways to higher wages and increased employment opportunities. In this way, the CHW Workforce Program serves as a vital catalyst for Latiné individuals to enter health-related fields and further contribute to their communities.
