Nutritional Health Program

The Nutritional Health Program provides families with nutritious, culturally tailored foods so that they experience less stress around how to feed their families because they know where and how to access food. The program offers culturally specific nutrition education and fresh food box deliveries to Latiné families experiencing food insecurity.

Program Offerings

Health Promotion Classes

In person and virtual workshops and classes:

  • Abuela, Mamá, y Yo - a basic nutrition education class, about the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DoHAD) and Epigenetics.

  • Health Empowerment classes - we offer gardening, cooking, Walk with Ease, and composting classes.

Advocacy Workshops

Know Your Rights around Food Resources (KYR) - an educational workshop that shares knowledge around federal nutrition programs and what to do if community members are facing discrimination when trying to access resources.

Resources Around Food

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program: Our program connects with Lomita Farm, Clay Street Table, Portland Fruit Tree Project, and other organizations to provide fresh, culturally specific vegetables and fruits to our Latiné community members. Vegetables are delivered to community members' homes during the CSA season (June - November).

Our team also supports community members by sharing resources around where and how to access culturally specific food.

Latiné communities face many health barriers and disparities which hinders a nutritious, healthy diet. We are more exposed to chronic stress, trauma, poverty due to factors such as fear, employment difficulties, and documentation status. Addressing food insecurity is necessary to support Latiné families, especially supporting a healthy diet based on strong cultural and family values.
